About me

I am a HPCSA-registered Clinical Psychologist in independent practice, based in Cape Town and offering online psychotherapy to adults across South Africa.

In addition to private practice, I currently work as a Clinical Psychologist within the Western Cape Government Department of Social Development, where I provide specialist psychological consultation, diagnostic support, and mental health guidance across child and adolescent mental health care services.

My work spans both public and private mental health settings and is grounded in a deep appreciation for the complexity of psychological suffering, adaptation, resilience, and the ways people strive to make sense of difficult experiences.

Clinical Training & Experience

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Rhodes University and completed professional training across a range of high-complexity public mental health settings.

My clinical internship was completed at Lentegeur Hospital, a public psychiatric hospital in Cape Town that serves as an important multidisciplinary training site for mental health professionals. This training provided intensive exposure to acute psychiatry, adult psychotherapy, child and adolescent mental health services, intellectual disability services, forensic mental health, and multidisciplinary psychiatric care.

During internship, I worked with individuals presenting with a broad range of complex psychological and psychiatric difficulties, including trauma-related disorders, mood disorders, psychosis, personality pathology, neurodevelopmental difficulties, and severe emotional dysregulation.

Following qualification, I completed my compulsory community service with the Department of Correctional Services at George Correctional Centre, where I provided psychological services to incarcerated individuals and parolees, including psychological risk assessment and complex clinical evaluation.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic work is grounded in evidence-based interventions such as cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

I understand psychological distress as often shaped by processes that operate partly outside conscious awareness. At times, people find themselves caught in recurring ways of thinking, feeling, and relating that feel painfully familiar, yet difficult to understand or change.

These patterns may reflect longstanding adaptations to emotional pain, internalised relational expectations, defensive processes, or deeply held beliefs about oneself and others. While such patterns may once have served important protective functions, they can also contribute to ongoing distress, relational difficulties, and a diminished sense of psychological freedom.

Psychotherapy offers a space to explore these patterns with greater depth, curiosity, and understanding. While insight is important, meaningful change often involves more than intellectual understanding alone. Lasting change often emerges through emotional experience, reflection, and the therapeutic relationship itself.

Clinical Expertise & Research

A particular area of professional interest is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-and-stressor related disorders. My postgraduate research, examined the feasibility and effectiveness of massed prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD in a low-resource South African setting. This work was subsequently published in a peer-reviewed journal.

This research deepened my interest in empirically supported treatments, and the integration of structured intervention with psychologically informed formulation. Alongside trauma-focused work, I have extensive experience working with emotional distress, mood difficulties, relationship difficulties, personality dynamics, and complex diagnostic presentations.

Working Together

I aim to offer a therapeutic relationship characterised by empathy, non-judgement, curiosity, and collaboration. Therapy can involve speaking about experiences that often feel painful, confusing, or difficult to put into words. My intention is to provide a holding space where difficult experiences can be explored, understood, and worked through at a pace that feels manageable and meaningful. I believe effective psychotherapy requires both professional expertise and a strong therapeutic alliance. For this reason, careful attention is given not only to symptoms, but also to the broader emotional, relational, and psychological context in which distress emerges.

Taking the First Step

Beginning psychotherapy can feel daunting, particularly when you are already carrying emotional distress or uncertainty about where to begin. An initial consultation offers space to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and consider whether working together feels like the right fit.
